A good sweatshirt is not to be underestimated – and this one is particularly good! Sustainably crafted from 100% organic cotton, this piece convinces with its retro appearance, which derives from its retro fleece material. The contrast-colored stitching adds to that vintage vibe, while the canvas label on the front rounds everything off. This garment was made by one of our well-trusted partner companies in Portugal, who share our core values: making the best sustainable textiles possible by paying close attention to the exclusive use of high-quality natural materials, sturdy craft, innovative production techniques, and fair working conditions.

Trust and respect are the base of our relationship with our production partners.

Founded in 1911 by Balthasar Merz in the Swabian Alb region of Germany, Merz b. Schwanen began as a traditional maker of high-quality undergarments for local workers. For nearly a century, the factory utilized specialized circular knitting machines to create durable, comfortable basics. However, as industrial fast-fashion rose in the late 20th century, the original brand eventually ceased production.

The modern revival occurred in 2011, exactly 100 years after its founding, when designer Peter Plotnicki discovered a vintage Merz b. Schwanen Henley at a flea market. Captivated by the unique "loopwheeled" fabric, he and his partner Gitta tracked down the original factory and restored its antique, 100-year-old machinery.
